Today, Brenda Bouw, published an article for The Globe And Mail all about Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation… abbreviated to “CASL”.

Her article, titled “New anti-spam law ‘a big deal’ for small businesses ” explores the new legislation and how it effects small businesses in Canada. The entire Elite Email team was happy to see that the final four paragraphs of this great article are referencing an interview I did with this reporter.

You can read the full article here: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/small-business/sb-digital/biz-categories-technology/businesses-rush-to-comply-with-tough-new-anti-spam-law/article17609044/

All of us at Elite Email have been working hard for months & months to understand every component of CASL. We have seen that many (if not most) of the organizations in Canada and abroad don’t fully understand how CASL is going to shake the Canadian marketing landscape at it’s core and truly impact their day-to-day operations. Our goal is to be the go-to thought leaders on the topic of CASL so that we can help not only our customers, but also all of those who need guidance in navigating the new rule book.

To assist with that, we released the CASL Survival Guide in a variety of formats:

Since the release of the CASL Survival Guide, it has been downloaded and accessed a tremendous amount of times and with the article on the Globe and Mail, we have seen yet another spike in downloads.

It is great to see people accessing this guide and using the information to make sure they are ahead of the curve and fully prepared for CASL. Plus, the feedback we have been getting and the appreciation from people who finally have an easy-to-follow roadmap has been fantastic.

I’m a big fan of podcasts… but I’m even a bigger fan when that podcast features our CEO, Robert Burko talking all about email marketing.

This week Robert was a featured guests on the Entrepreneur Podcast Network.

The interviewer, Eric Dye, covers the following key email marketing questions:

  • Is email marketing as effective as it used to be?
  • Which businesses or organizations should be doing email marketing?
  • What are some tactics a small business can use to grow their permission-based (opt-in) mailing list?
  • Is it complicated to get started sending an email newsletter?
  • What makes for a highly effective email campaign?
  • … and more!

At Elite Email, we’re very digital focused. We live in cyberspace and spend our time helping clients maximize their marketing through the information super highway (<– which is totally an expression you don’t hear anymore!).

There’s always people talking about us online and we see chatter in forums, blogs, review sites, etc.

All the more reason it is exciting for us when we get coverage in print media. It’s just so great to open up a newspaper, flip through the pages, and then see a story all about us. It’s even more exciting when that story is in the highly respected Calgary Herald, which is amongst the biggest daily newspapers in Canada.

Needless to say, I am excited to share this story with all of you. You can see a photo of the article below (or click for a larger version).

Many thanks to the reporter, Lee Rickwood, from WhatYourTech.ca, for the great article.

As you may or may not know, the Canadian government released their federal budget yesterday.

The Globe And Mail, which is Canada’s larger national newspaper (and second largest daily newspaper) interviewed our CEO, Robert Burko, as one of the featured entrepreneurs commenting on the budget.

Last week I shared a personal story on this blog about my very good friend’s wedding and how I was able to use technology to help bring the father of the bride to the wedding from his hospital bed. (Read the original blog post)

The story spread like wildfire once I shared it on Facebook.
But, it didn’t stop there…

Today it is the front page story of the Toronto Star, which is Canada’s highest circulation newspaper. [Source: Wikipedia]

This is a snap shot of what it looks like:

Toronto Star: June 7, 2011

The article was written by the very talented Daniel Dale and can be read online here: http://www.thestar.com/news/article/1003638–a-heart-attack-a-wedding-and-an-ipad

The story has also been picked up by the Metro, and has been discussed on CP24, CHFI and other media outlets.

Of course, in addition to that, my entire Facebook newsfeed is filled with people re-sharing the story.

It’s amazing to read the comments people are writing about this. I truly and sincerely appreciate all the nice things people are writing.

As I have been saying the whole time, no matter how big this story my get, I am just happy that everything worked and I was able to make Dana & Darren’s magical wedding that much more special.
