One of the very first things I’ll encourage people to do when they first adopt an email marketing strategy for their organization is to add a method for people to signup for their mailing list directly from the organization’s website.
This is one of the fundamental key steps towards building a large permission-based (opt-in) mailing list since you are letting your website visitors who want to receive information from you enroll quickly & easily.
Plus, with the Elite Email double opt-in process, you can rest assured that your mailing list will adhere to the highest standards and best practices.
There are many tools within Elite Email to help you add this mailing list registration to your website, but today I’m going to specifically focus on CUSTOM signup buttons.
Within your Elite Email account, go to the CONTACTS tab and then choose the “More” menu. From here you will find an option titled “Get More Contacts”, which is the hub for all the different choices you have from signup forms to buttons to pop-ups to direct links. For now choose “Signup Button”.
You can choose from hundreds of pre-built buttons that are all organized into different categories. However, even with all those options, you may want something that is specifically tailor made for your website.
(Tip: If you are having a web designer build a new website for you, it is a good idea to have them include and design a signup button as well… this way you already have it and are ready to go!)
Keep in mind that when using a custom image, you should make sure that the text on the button is clear & obvious so your website visitor knows that is the button to click to signup for your mailing list.
Just as an example, if a visitor to your website sees the text “Stay in Touch” they might not have any clue what that button does. But, if you write “Join Our Mailing List” then it becomes a lot more obvious.
Once you have your custom image saved as a GIF or JPG (and it’s the proper size you want for your website), simply click the browse button to locate the file on your computer. After selecting the file click “Upload”.
After your image is uploaded, click the “Continue >>>” button to get the code you’ll need to add to your website.
Don’t be intimidated by the HTML code since the Elite Email Wizard has set everything up so all you have to do is copy and paste the code onto your website. You don’t have to understand the code, study the code or do anything else with the code…. And I promise there is no pop-quiz later!
If you are using a WYSIWYG editor (such as Adobe Dreamweaver), make sure you paste the code into the ‘code view’. If you preview your website and you see the raw code instead of your signup button, it means you pasted it into the WYSIWYG view.
Once you paste the code onto your website, you are all done!
Anyone who visits your website can click the button to go right to your online subscription center and will automatically be sent your welcome email. By the way, you can customize both your subscription center (to collect the exact information you want) and the welcome email (to say exactly what you want), which is something I strongly recommend doing.
Of course, if you run into trouble when adding the custom mailing list signup button to your site, you can always contact our Support Department and they will be happy to help you.
