Interest Groups are a really great feature that allows you to send targeted email marketing campaigns to just a specific set of contacts. But, often times our customers will create an interest group for a specific purpose and then they want to get rid of that group by merging it into another one of their existing groups.

This is actually very easy to do and can be accomplished with just a few clicks.

Go to the Contacts > Manage Groups page and click the “Delete” button beside the group that want to remove.

My Interest Groups > Delete

On the next page, Elite Email will ask you what you want to do with the contacts that are currently subscribed to that group.

You can choose not to move the contacts. If you do this, the group will be deleted and contacts who do not already subscribe to another interest group will become “uncategorized”. Of course, if a contact is already in another group, then they will stay in that other group and will not be uncategorized. The uncategorized label is just for contacts who are on your mailing list but not assigned to any interest groups.

In this example, however, we actually want to merge these contacts into another group. So, we will select the “Move Contacts To” option.

My Interest Groups > Merge

Simply choose the group that you want to move the contacts into. For example, in the above screenshot, if you wanted to merge the “Networking Events” group with “General”, you would just select “General” from the drop-down menu.

Then, click “Delete” and everyone will be moved over and the groups will be merged.

You don’t have to worry about duplicates either. If someone you’re moving is already in the destination group, they won’t be added twice. Elite Email will automatically filter that for you.
